Samy Worm

MySpace is one of the most recognizable names of the early 2000s and 2010s in terms of social media. Being the first large-scale social media to truly take off, it felt like a website that wouldn't and shouldn't be able to be tampered with by the public. Unfortunately, this was not the case.

The Samy Worm virus was the fastest spreading virus of all time back in Myspace. It was a non-malicious virus that revealed the true threat of what a real malicious virus could do under similar circumstances. Just under 24 hours after the Samy Worm was implemented on Myspace, over one million users’ systems were infected with the worm.
